Odin (aka Odie) was born on December 21, 1999 and was an only child. His father was a violet carrier and his mother was a violet. The breeder told us he is a standard grey violet carrier, like his dad. Odie's fur is a more flat color grey with greyish pink ears and paws, and the same white tip on his tail like Zeus. There appear to be white patches in his fur here and there, but nothing so large and obvious as Zeus's patches of color. Odie is a real little bugger... he is the epitome of curiosity and will do about anything to reach whatever he's interested in so he can examine it thoroughly. We originally bought a small rabbit cage from a local pet store for temporary housing until the chinchilla cage we ordered online got here in the mail. The first night he was here, he easily squished himself through bars of the rabbit cage and sat on the floor blinking up at me as if to say "I'm loose... what are you going to do about it?" As soon as I got up to catch him, he squished himself right back through the bars into the cage. We tried everything to hold him in, but he is a little Houdini. Worse yet, after the first couple times he got out, he taught Zeus how to do it too. We finally had to block off an entire area of the kitchen for them to stay in since we couldn't keep him in the cage. (That area has now become the play area.) Sitting in the living room, you could hear the pitter patter of little feet exploring every inch of the toys and the floor. When the "official chin cage" from Quality Cage Co. arrived a couple weeks later, he managed to squish himself through the 1" X 1 1/2" openings of that wire too, albeit with much more difficulty. Zeus was too fat to follow on that one. We bought an aquarium for Odie after that until he was too big to fit through the bars of the other cage. He was very upset that the glass was impenetrable and spent lots of time jumping straight up in the air, bumping the lid. It is his mission to be free on the floor and you just can't convince him otherwise. Odie is more like my daughter, which is appropriate since he is hers and Zeus is mine. He is very friendly and loves to be the center of attention. His nickname is "Poser Boy" (among many others) since he will often stop and turn around to make sure you're watching him, as in the picture above. He provides endless photo opportunities. Odie will also try anything once... we've offered them both everything from salad greens to fresh fruits and while Zeus is busy wiping the smell from his nose, Odie will always take a few bites, then decide if he likes it or not. He's not too picky about treats either as long as it's not plain old food. He likes papaya, almonds, crunchies (treats from the pet store made for chinnies), dried cranberries, cherries, fresh grapes, collard greens and of course... raisins!
